WIC was founded 35 years ago in Athens, Greece to foster friendship, exchange of cultures and promote mutual understanding amongst distinguished ladies.
Our members are made up of around 60 different nationalities and contribute greatly to the cultural development of women, who through friendship wish to make the world a happier place.
The club holds monthly meetings where invited speakers present their expertise, knowledge and unique interests. The Q + A following each presentation shows how enthusiastic an audience the WIC ladies truly are! Lunch follows and opportunity to catch up with old friends, and a chance to make new ones of course.
During each month we enjoy a number of activities which always include a "Meet My Country" where an Embassy presents the very best of their country and extend their gracious hospitality. A truly unique privilege and special way to have a burst of culture through knowledge and gastronomy from around the world.
Activities also include visits to museums, galleries, private collections, premiers, fashion trends, the art of gastronomy and anything that is sporty, cultural or socially unique and exciting. We were even invited to spend a day on the amazing Celebrity Equinox cruise ship when it docked in Piraeus!
We enjoy activities that include husbands and other loved ones. Fun events like our annual fancy dress party, dinner dances, food and wine nights, day trips, weekends and trips to exotic and exciting places around the globe.
The President and Executive Board are dedicated to making WIC a great club to be a member of.
Letter from our President
Dearest Friends,
While it is a great honour to be asked to serve as your President for 2013, it is self evident that the Board and I cannot make the year ahead the success it should be without the whole hearted support of every member of the Club.
We are fully aware of the economic difficulties facing the entire country and will strive to keep our costs down. Please note that our Annual Fee has not been raised and that the costs for the January AGM are cheaper than they have been for the last 2 years.
We are doing our best but we cannot do it on our own. I should be waxing philosophical, or even lyrical on the aims of the Club and here I am doing the ‘housekeeping.’ Such are the times we live in.
Having said that, the main aim of the Club is the fostering of friendship and what friends do is to be there for each other during good times and bad. So make it a priority to join one of the many Circles which are the backbone of the Club. This is where lasting friendships are made.
Join us for the AGM in January at the Pendelikon and unwind with friends, old and new, as we cut a Vasilopita and usher in another great year. We are going back to the Hilton in February to hear Irini Molfessis speak to us on Animal Welfare in Greece. We are being offered a wonderful rate for parking at the Hilton. So, carpool and come. Your purse will hardly feel it. Housekeeping again. Oh dear!
Our Newsletter covers this year will depict Greek goddesses. This month we feature Athena, goddess of our patron city, Athens. She is also the goddess of wisdom and knowledge, of heroic endeavour and the crafts. A true warrior goddess and one whose attributes we would be wise to emulate!
In closing, let me say that it has been a privilege to serve with the 2012 Board under the leadership of Samia, a lady of grace, charm and incredible courage. I am proud to be able to call her my friend. Thank you, Samia.
